DESCRIPTION:New Jersey Makers Day is a celebration of maker culture across New Jersey. This all-ages event connects individuals with makerspaces that support making\, tinkering\, crafting\, manufacturing\, and STEM-based learning. Join Liberty Hall as we celebrate New Jersey Makers Day with Fun and Games in Colonial America! Visitors of all-ages will learn about the types of toys\, games and activities that entertained early American children and have the opportunity to play with the very same games and toys. Participants will learn about the many different types of marble games dreamed up over the centuries and make their own set of clay marbles. Participants will also create their own palette\, learning how primary colors can be mixed to create secondary colors. Then using the colors they create to paint a wooden top to take home! \nRecommended for ages 4 and up. DESCRIPTION:Is anyone hungry for history? This program will introduce students to social history by looking at different recipes from different eras. Students will examine how recipes and cooking have evolved over time from the colonial period to the 1950s and even design their own recipes\, predicting what people might eat 100 years in the future! At the end\, students will enjoy a small snack based on the recipes they explored at the museum. \nThe program includes a snack. DESCRIPTION:In the 1940s\, Kean University was called The New Jersey State Teachers College at Newark. It was located on Broadway and Newark Avenue\, and students earned a B.S. in different types of Education. After the United States entered World War II in 1941\, librarian Nancy Thompson reached out to students and alumni in the armed services. Many wrote back. The letters and other materials were compiled in a scrapbook that we call the Nancy Thompson WWII Scrapbook Letter Collection. Kean’s Head Archivist\, Erin Cral Alghandoor\, will visually share the re-discovery of this unique collection\, describe the campus response to the war\, highlight a variety of letters in the collection\, and share how recent Kean students are using it to make lesson plans and write research papers. \nReservations required.
