Museum and Arboretum Educator 

Liberty Hall, a historic house museum and arboretum in Union, New Jersey is seeking enthusiastic and friendly Museum Educators to join the team as seasonal part-time positions. The Museum Educators will be responsible for the delivery of educational programs, public house tours, special events, and weekend programs in historic period dress. This position requires creativity, positive energy, organization, a strong interest in history and education, and strong communication and presentation skills. 

Essential Duties

• Lead public tours of the museum, gardens, and arboretum 
• Deliver educational school programs, including field trips, outreach, and scout programs 
• Assist with set-up, preparation, teardown, and cleanup of all materials and activities for various programs
• Assist with special events on evenings and weekends as needed (availability on Saturdays or Sundays is required) 
• Perform other duties as required by management 

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Teaching experience in formal or informal educational settings 
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Enthusiastic team member with strong written and verbal communication skills 
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments and with outside contacts and vendors 
• Confidence using basic computer programs and the Microsoft Office and Google suites 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree– areas of history, education, museum studies/education, special education or related field 
• Availability on most weekday mornings during peak season (March-June & September-December) and Saturdays or Sundays 
• Ability to lift and move 30 pounds and remain standing for 50% of job time

Pay Range: $18 per hour

1882 Carriage House Water Infiltration Repair Bid

The “Liberty Hall Museum Carriage House” is a prominent historic structure that was originally built in ca. 1880, with minor expansion in 1908. This structure has been determined to possess historic and architectural significance and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Liberty Hall Museum (the “Owner”) and its “Project Representative” desire to hire a contractor for water infiltration repairs, in accordance with the specifications and timetable listed below. Bids for this contract will only be accepted from contractors who can demonstrate at least five (5) years of experience in similar historic preservation projects, such as repair and restoration of historic landmarks. The bidder/Contractor and dedicated crew for this project shall demonstrate successful experience in the restoration of historic buildings using the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties on at least two projects of similar size and scope of work as the subject project within the past five years, at least one of which was reviewed and approved by a state Historic Preservation Office, the New Jersey Historic Trust, or the historic review body of a county or municipal authority. There will be a pre-bid meeting for all interested project participants. In addition, arrangements can be made and are strongly recommended with individual contractors for pre-bid inspection of the site and building.

Fellowships:

Our May Kean Raynolds Graduate Museum Studies Fellow is offered to graduate students in a master’s program in Museum Studies, History, or a related field.

The fellowship is designed to provide a mentored professional development opportunity for graduate students seeking careers in museum settings. Fellowships are tailored to the student’s individual educational goals and provide opportunities to explore multiple areas of museum work while gaining specialized skills and experience. Projects may include designing, developing, and delivering innovative programming for diverse audiences, as well as collections management, exhibit development, and marketing design and implementation, based on the fellow’s interests.

Fellows will work approximately 30 hours per week during the 13-week fellowship. Work hours are flexible and will be scheduled during museum operating hours. The fellowship will commence in June 2027 and conclude in August 2027. The museum is easily accessible by New Jersey Transit trains on the Raritan Valley line and New Jersey Transit bus lines.
