Our ever popular scout programs are now available as virtual programs! Each program is approximately 90 minutes in length and includes a lively presentation by one of our museum educators along with artifacts from the museum’s collection. Programs are designed to assist scouts in completing the requirements of merit badges, elective adventures., etc. – depending on your scout level.
- These programs must be scheduled a minimum of two weeks in advance.
- Programs require a minimum of 10 participants. When a troop has fewer than 10 members, leaders may join with another troop or invite non-scout peers to participate in programs.
- Program fee is $8.00 per scout. All participating adults will be charged a fee of $4.00.
- A 50% deposit of program cost is required at the time of booking. Balance is due the day of the program.
- Programs are available weekday afternoons and evenings and weekends throughout the year

Brownies:
Art Abounds!
The historic portraits of the residents of Liberty Hall hold many secrets! We’ll discuss how each portrait tells us something about its subject. Scouts will use origami techniques to create a one-of-a-kind sketch book that will be used as we find inspiration for sketches in the halls of Liberty Hall. Scouts will create and personalize a self-portrait of their own. This program fulfills several requirements for the Brownie Painting Badge.
Honoring Our Heritage
Scouts will discover how the American flag evolved and learn about the various flags and symbols that have represented our country, state and county. Scouts will explore Liberty Hall Museum and learn how historic sites become landmarks. Finally, scouts will create a banner representing the qualities of their own troop. This program fulfills several requirements for the Brownie Celebrating Community Badge.
Juniors:
Art Abounds!
The historic portraits of the residents of Liberty Hall hold many secrets! We’ll discuss how each portrait tells us something about its subject. The Heroines of Liberty Hall
Liberty Hall was home to many generations of accomplished women. Learn the stories of the women who called Liberty Hall home and how life changed for women from the 1780s through the 1940s. Using artifacts, reproductions and hands-on activities, museum educators in period clothing will guide scouts through a time travel adventure that focuses on how technology evolved and women’s roles changed. This program fulfills several requirements for the Playing the Past badge for Junior Scouts.
Seniors and Ambassadors:
Stitches in Time
Learn about all the various types of textiles on display at Liberty Hall Museum. Identify how textiles played a “social role” during the Victorian Era and how the Kean family used them in their daily lives. Get inspired by Liberty Hall’s textile collection and create your own sample quilt square. This program fulfills several requirements for the Senior Textile Artist Badge.

Explore Liberty Hall’s various architectural styles that span over three different centuries. Learn about the variety of styles and building materials used to design and construct these buildings. Examine floor plans and create your own scale drawing of a Liberty Hall room! Can be completed in conjunction with the Cadette Woodworker Badge.
Scouts, Spies and Soldiers: A Revolutionary Adventure
Learn how Revolutionary era spies used codes, dead drops and ciphers to convey military intelligence. Follow clues to find a secret message hidden in the halls of Liberty Hall! Create your own secret codebook. Can be completed in conjunction with the Brownie Letterboxer Badge.
Daisy Scouts
Vi’s Story
Daisies will listen to Vi’s story then travel the globe and learn about the different types of houses that people live in and create a mural to illustrate their adventure. Daisies will explore some of the plants that grow in our greenhouses to learn about the types of flowers that grow in different parts of the planet. Finally, scouts will complete a flower craft!
Boy Scouts
The Legacy of Liberty Hall
Built in the early 1770’s, Liberty Hall has been a witness to countless historic events and its residents have shaped New Jersey history. Scouts will tour the Mansion at Liberty Hall and learn what qualifies a building for National Historic Register status. Museum educators will lead a discussion of careers in historic preservation and the education and experience needed to work in this exciting field. Finally, scouts will examine a selection of historic documents. This program fulfills several requirements for the American Heritage badge.
The Architecture of Liberty Hall
Liberty Hall was a residence for prominent New Jersey families for over 200 years. During that time, the house grew from 14 rooms to 50. The house reflects the changes in architectural styles over three different centuries. Scouts will learn about the variety of building materials used on structures throughout the property and learn how form follows function in the design and construction of those buildings. We’ll examine floor plans and elevations and observe how they were translated into actual buildings. Finally, scouts will create a scale drawing of a room. This program fulfills several requirements of the Architecture badge.
The Art of Liberty Hall
The extensive art collection of Liberty Hall will provide a springboard for scouts to discover the elements of art and principles of design. We’ll discuss how color can be used to set a mood or convey an emotion. Scouts will explore the collection with a museum educator and then draw inspiration from artifacts and the grounds to create their own one-of-a-kind masterpiece. In addition, we’ll use a different drawing techniques to create an original logo and discuss three career opportunities in the arts. This program fulfills several requirements of the Art badge.

Tall Tales of the American Revolution
Many tall tales grew out of American history. In this program, we will explore tall tales inspired by the American Revolution. Scouts will hear some of the folk tales that have been passed down through generations both in story and song. In addition, scouts will have the opportunity to experience one of Liberty Hall’s favorite legends: The Legend of Livingston Fox! We will wind up the adventure by creating a tricorn hat! Meets the requirements of Tiger Tales, Tiger elective adventure.
Wolf Scouts:
Scouts, Spies and Soldiers: A Revolutionary Adventure
In addition to being the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, General George Washington also served as Spymaster in Chief of our intelligence services. In this exciting program, scouts will learn how Revolutionary era spies used codes, dead drops and ciphers to convey military intelligence. Scouts will follow clues to find a secret message sent to General Washington hidden at Liberty Hall. They will learn how to use the pig-pen code and will discover the important role scouts played during the American Revolution. Scouts will participate in a musket demo and learn how Revolutionary soldiers trained for battle. All scouts will create their own secret code book. Meets the requirements of Code of the Wolf, Wolf elective adventure.

Liberty Hall Museum is home to some of the most mysterious and intriguing legends of New Jersey. Tour Liberty Hall, listen to these legends, and test your sleuthing skills to determine the elements of each legend that are facts versus those that are fictitious! In addition, scouts will learn about one of the oldest toys in the world, and will make their own thaumatrope! Can be completed in conjunction with Art Explosion Webelos elective adventure.
