Research: Rights and Reproductions

Requests for copies and reproductions

All photocopying and scanning of archival records will be performed exclusively by archival staff. Liberty Hall Museum reserves the right to deny requests to reproduce items in our collection for any reason, including but not limited to an item’s size, access restrictions, format, or condition. Receiving copies of archival records does not grant an individual authorization to reproduce them in a publication. Researchers must obtain written permission to quote from archival documents from the Curator of Archives in advance of publication.

Permission must be requested from curators to reproduce archival documents or use images of objects in any publication(s). Liberty Hall Museum reserves the right to request copies of any publications that have quoted at length from archival materials in our collection.

Liberty Hall Museum will not charge a fee for the use of archival materials or images of objects in projects or publications that do not generate revenue (i.e. a student exhibit or paper). Projects or publications that do generate revenue (i.e. a book, article, or museum exhibition) may be charged a fee on a case-by-case basis. A digitization fee of $25 may be charged to provide high resolution scans of items that have not yet been digitized.

While researchers are welcome to take photographs of items in Liberty Hall Museum’s collection for study or reference, they cannot use these images for publication or any other use without first receiving permission from the museum.

Remote Research Requests

Researchers who are unable to visit Liberty Hall Museum in person are welcome to request remote research assistance. Remote research requests will be accepted on a case-by-case basis, pending staff availability and other factors. The hourly rate for remote staff research assistance is $25. In order to request research assistance please email the Curator of Archives at kayla.doyle@kean.edu with the topic you would like assistance researching and the amount of time you would like staff to devote to your request. Remote research assistance is capped at five hours.
